The electronic certificate in Spain
The electronic certificate is a digital document that identifies a company with a secure public key and allows it to carry out online procedures. This certificate is issued and signed by an accredited entity recognised as a certification authority. The most common is the Fábrica Nacional de Monedas y Timbres or FNMT.
This certificate is used, for example, to obtain a Social Security number in order to be able to work in Spain or to download notifications sent by a Spanish administration (tax authorities, courts, town halls, etc.).
This certificate must be renewed every two years.
